For seamless digital payments, Samsung has now rolled out its innovative Tap to Transfer feature for the Samsung Wallet app. This exciting functionality was first glimpsed during the unveiling of their flagship Galaxy S25 series at the January Unpacked 2025 event. Starting towards the end of this month (May 2025), users in the US will begin to experience this convenient new way to send money.
In a recent blog post from Samsung, the company officially announced Tap to Transfer, a new peer-to-peer (P2P) payment method in partnership with Mastercard and Visa. This user-friendly feature empowers you to effortlessly pay your bills or transfer money to friends simply by bringing your phones close together. This approach mirrors the Tap to Cash feature offered by their Cupertino-based rival, Apple. However, Samsung highlights a key differentiator: you can even transfer funds to individuals using their physical debit card with tap-to-pay capabilities, just by bringing that card near a Samsung phone equipped with the Wallet app. This means you gain the flexibility of both digital payments via NFC and the convenience of tapping a physical debit card to a Samsung phone.
But that's not all! Samsung has also addressed the need for remote transfers. If you need to send money to someone who isn't nearby, you can still do so by searching for their phone number within the app and "completing the transfer remotely." While this method might take "within minutes" according to Samsung, it's acknowledged to be a bit slower than the instant Tap to Transfer experience achieved by bringing the phones together. The transfer speed can depend on factors like internet connectivity, financial institutions, and underlying technology.
The highly anticipated Tap to Transfer feature will gradually become available this month. The initial rollout will be in the US, with the global availability still to be announced. Rest assured, we will keep you updated on when this exciting feature becomes accessible in more regions. Stay tuned for further updates on how Samsung Wallet is making digital payments even easier and faster for everyone.
