Samsung is finally set to enter the world of extended reality (XR) with the highly anticipated launch of its first XR headset. According to a new report from a South Korean news outlet, the device, codenamed "Moohan," is expected to be unveiled on October 21, 2025. This device will reportedly be available for purchase immediately after the launch event.

As a leading manufacturer of Android smartphones and other electronics, Samsung is now poised to make a significant impact on the XR landscape. In a collaborative effort with Google, the South Korean tech giant is bringing its new XR headset to the market. While the project was first teased at the end of last year, a recent report from the South Korean news outlet ET News suggests a definitive launch date. The report states, “According to industry sources on the 18th, Samsung Electronics' Mobile Experience (MX) division will unveil Moohan online on the 21st of next month (the 22nd, Korean time).” This new report pushes aside previous speculation that the headset would launch on September 29.

Collaboration and Features: The Google Advantage

The Galaxy XR headset is poised to be a formidable competitor in the XR space. Its collaborative development with Google means the device will run on Google's Android XR platform. This is a major differentiator; unlike Apple's closed visionOS, Android XR is an open platform, which should ensure broad support for a vast ecosystem of existing Android apps from the Google Play Store, making it more versatile from day one.

Furthermore, the headset is rumored to have deep integration with Google's Gemini AI. This could provide a seamless, hands-free experience for a variety of everyday tasks, from real-time translations to managing your workspace with simple voice commands.

High-End Hardware and Performance

A key rumored feature of the new headset is its support for spatial 3D content, which can be captured directly with the new Galaxy S25 series. These spatial photos and videos are specifically designed to be viewed on the Galaxy XR headset, allowing users to create their own personal, immersive content library. This is a clear move to replicate and compete with a similar feature found on the iPhone and Apple Vision Pro.

In terms of display technology, reports suggest the headset will use Sony's 1.3-inch 4K OLEDoS (OLED on Silicon) panels, featuring a rumored pixel density of 3,800ppi. Powering the device is expected to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor, an upgraded chip that surpasses the one found in the Meta Quest 3.

Pricing and Competition

The Galaxy XR headset is also expected to be lighter and more comfortable than its primary competitor, the Apple Vision Pro, possibly featuring magnetic light seals. Rumors suggest that the price of the upcoming Galaxy XR headset would be around 2 million KRW, which is roughly $1,431.89 USD. This is significantly lower than the Apple Vision Pro, which is priced at around $3,499. This pricing strategy suggests a strong competitive approach from Samsung, aiming to make its premium device more accessible.
