Apple has just launched a significant upgrade for its spatial computer, the Vision Pro, featuring the powerful new M5 chip and a redesigned strap engineered for your comfort. This timely release enters a mixed-reality arena that is heating up with the potential launch of a new device from its South Korean rival. The Silicon Valley giant has introduced a new "Dual Knit Band" cushion, specifically designed to give you a more comfortable and balanced user experience.

Today, Apple introduced this upgraded version of its Vision Pro, a year after the original M2-powered model debuted in 2024. The most significant changes are the introduction of the next-generation M5 chipset and the addition of the new comfort strap. The company has dubbed this new accessory the "Dual Knit Band," focusing entirely on a more ergonomic design for you. Besides this new strap, the core design remains unchanged from its M2 Vision Pro predecessor.
As Apple explains, “It features upper and lower straps that are 3D-knitted as a single piece to create a unique dual-rib structure that provides cushioning, breathability, and stretch.”
The introduction of this strap is likely a direct response to feedback regarding the weight of the original Vision Pro. Apple elaborates, ”The lower strap features flexible fabric ribs embedded with tungsten inserts that provide a counterweight for additional comfort, balance, and stability.” This means the device should feel much more secure on your head.
While rumors persist about a lighter Vision Pro 2, there has been no official confirmation. This new Dual Knit Band will be available in three sizes (small, medium, and large), and you can also easily tighten the strap with a new controller dial. If you own the M2 Vision Pro in the US, you can get the Dual Knit Band separately for approximately $99.
Performance Unleashed: What the M5 Chip Means for You
The main upgrade for you is the new M5 chipset, which will provide you with an “even faster, smoother, and more responsive experience.” Here’s what you can expect:
- Advanced Graphics: The new M5-powered headset features a 10-core GPU, enabling significant advancements in gaming. This allows developers to immerse you in more detailed worlds with better “lighting, shadows, and reflections.”
- Seamless Experience: You'll notice a faster, more fluid experience when opening and closing your apps, creating a truly seamless workflow.
- Display Upgrade: Thanks to the M5 chip, the new Vision Pro can now boost its refresh rate to 120Hz (up from 90Hz). This will make every interaction, from scrolling to watching videos, feel incredibly smooth to your eyes.
- Enhanced AI Features: Core AI features that you use, like Persona and Spatial scenes, are now up to 50% faster, making them feel more natural and responsive.
Battery, Price, and Availability
The battery life has also been improved, giving you up to 2.5 hours of video playback and 3 hours of general use. You can order the new M5 Apple Vision Pro starting today in the US, with a starting price of $3,499, which includes the new Dual Knit Band.
- Pre-orders Begin Today: If you are in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, the UAE, the UK, or the U.S.
- In-Store Availability: October 22nd in the regions above.
- Pre-orders Begin October 17th: China mainland and Singapore.
Strategic Timing: The Samsung Factor
The timing of this new Vision Pro launch isn't just about user feedback. A major factor is the imminent arrival of a competing device from Samsung. The new XR headset, reportedly named "Project Moohan," is set to be unveiled on October 21st. By launching now, the Silicon Valley company may be trying to capture more of the market and prevent potential users from diverting to Samsung's new XR headset.
