Is your Snapchat down? Are you unable to send or receive streaks? You're not alone. Snapchat is down for users around the world, and the major reason for this Snapchat outage is linked to a massive AWS outage. This global outage has also affected Amazon, Fortnite, Amazon Alexa, Clash Royale, ChatGPT, and more. The AWS down reports started today around 3:11 AM ET, and the service is still not fully recovered.

The "Temporarily Disabled" Error: What's Going On With Snapchat?

Today, a major AWS incident caused disruptions across all platforms using their service, including Snapchat, Amazon, Fortnite, the Epic Games store, ChatGPT, and more. Users are reporting that Snapchat is not working; they are unable to send or receive streaks and are seeing an unwanted message claiming their "account will be suspended."

This has caused unusual chaos in the Snapchat community, with users afraid of losing not only their streaks but also their accounts. The message appears after too many attempts to either log in or send messages: “Due to repeated failed attempts or other unusual activity, your access to Snapchat is temporarily disabled. Please try again.”

Snapchat and Downdetector Reports

The internet outage reports started today, and the popular outage monitoring website Downdetector shows a huge number of reports for Snapchat, which touched a peak of more than 22,000 reports around 3:00 AM EST / 12:43 PM PKT. Although reports have declined, the Snapchat outage is not fully resolved.

Snapchat finally spoke up and addressed the issue through its official statement: “We’re aware that some Snapchatters are having issues - hang tight, we’re looking into it!”. Despite this tweet being several hours old, the Snapchat servers are still experiencing problems, and users are unable to use the app.

The Root Cause: AWS Outage in US-EAST-1

The major cause of this global outage is the Amazon AWS outage, which hosts countless websites and platforms. This aws crash took down many online services starting around 3:00 AM ET.

The official AWS outage status checker at 3:35 AM PDT / 3:35 PM PKT showed a message: “The underlying DNS issue has been fully mitigated, and most AWS Service operations are succeeding normally now.” This was also confirmed by affected platforms like Epic Games and Fortnite, which stated they were fully recovered. However, the US-EAST-1 Region is still experiencing issues and is not fully recovered.

Amazon is actively working on identifying and recovering from the AWS issues. According to the latest updates, the company says, “We're now seeing connectivity and API recovery for AWS services,” which is hopeful and will definitely bring different platforms back on track. The root issue for the AWS incident affected "AWS services such as DynamoDB, SQS, and Amazon Connect in the US-EAST-1 Region." The cause was identified as an “underlying internal subsystem responsible for monitoring the health of our network load balancers.”

When Will Snapchat Be Fixed?

Once AWS is back up, hopefully, different platforms, including Snapchat, will also be working. We will update this article as soon as we have a Snapchat outage update and the service is back.
