As AI rapidly grows and deepens its roots in the tech world, Zoom has officially introduced its standalone AI assistant, now available directly through the web. The famous meeting platform has launched this update under the banner of Zoom AI Companion 3.0, a move that enables you to easily manage tasks, summaries, and workflows even without opening the Zoom app.

Today, Zoom launched a dedicated website for its AI assistant, accessible at ai.zoom.us. The company announced this major update via their official blog, marking it as a significant milestone: “The launch of AI Companion 3.0 is a turning point for Zoom, continuing our transformation from a meeting company into a pioneer of AI-first intelligent work orchestration.”

As the name suggests, the primary role of this new AI Agent is to handle tasks on your behalf. Powered by Zoom’s federated AI approach, which integrates models like OpenAI and Claude, the assistant can search your past meetings, transcripts, and connected third-party apps (including Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive) to find information and answer questions instantly. The company also plans to integrate Gmail and Outlook soon.

Step-by-Step: How to Use the New Web Plan

If you are on the free plan, here is how you can start using these features today:
  • Go to the Web Hub: Open your browser and visit ai.zoom.us.
  • Log In: Use your standard Zoom Basic credentials.
  • Enable the Feature: If the AI is inactive, check your account settings under the "AI Companion" tab to ensure it is toggled ON.
  • Start Orchestrating: Use the prompt guide to ask the AI to "Summarize my last meeting" or "Draft a follow-up email."

From Reactive to Proactive Assistance

Previously, the AI within the Zoom app was largely "reactive"; it only worked when you initiated a request. Now, Zoom AI Companion 3.0 makes the leap to being proactive.

This means the assistant can automatically draft emails, create calendar events, and generate "Daily Reflection" reports to summarize your entire workday without you needing to constantly prompt it. The new web interface also includes a prompt template guide, helping users understand exactly how to leverage the AI companion.

Creating Documents with Zoom Docs

With the help of the new AI Companion, Zoom now empowers you to create business documents directly from the companion interface. These can be easily exported into formats like Markdown (MD), PDF, Microsoft Word, and Zoom Docs.

This seamless workflow means that if you are in the companion interface during document creation, you can convert your ideas into Zoom Docs and export them immediately.

The "Cash Moment" for Free Users

The critical value proposition for free users lies in the new web interface. For the first time, Zoom Basic (free) users are able to access these powerful AI features, though in a limited capacity.

Free users can now utilize the AI to summarize up to 3 meetings per month. For those needing more power without a full enterprise plan, Zoom offers a standalone subscription for $10 per month to access full features. On the flip side, there are no extra charges for existing Zoom Workplace paid subscribers.

This update follows the introduction of Zoom’s AI Avatar in October 2024, which also falls under the expanding umbrella of the Zoom AI Companion ecosystem.
