Experiencing Chromecast connectivity problems with your Google Chromecast devices this weekend? You're not alone. Thankfully, Google has acknowledged the issue and is rolling out a fix.
Over the weekend, Google Chromecast (2nd Generation) and Chromecast Audio devices encountered a bug causing them to freeze and display an "untrusted device" error, hindering connections. Google has not yet specified the root cause, leaving users to speculate on whether it's a software bug or an expired certificate, as discussed on Reddit. Notably, the Chromecast 3rd Generation and Chromecast Ultra devices were unaffected. To alleviate user frustration, Google announced that a fix would be released within days.
According to a Google support page, "We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update."
Crucially, do not reset your Chromecast device. Google warns that resetting it in its current state will result in a permanent connection break, preventing future updates, including the vital fix for the ongoing Chromecast connectivity issues, from being applied. In essence, a 'wait and see' approach is the best course of action.
We'll keep you updated as soon as Google's fix is fully rolled out. In the meantime, please share any specific Chromecast issues you're experiencing in the comments below.
