Instagram finally testing a most awaited feature that will allow users to see messages without showing the 'seen' label under the message in DMs. This is genuinely late, as the WhatsApp messaging company owned by Meta got this update since 2014. The messaging platform did not mention the period when the turn-off read receipts will be rolled out.
The Turn off Read Receipts will give control over the user when the others can see if they've read their messages. The Meta did not reveal whether this feature will be rolled out at once for all user or for specific users in chunks. Mark Zuckerberg also posted a statement in these lighthearted words regarding the update "If you're someone who leaves people on read: your day has come".
This feature gives a user the ability to choose which people will able to see if you've read their messages. The Messaging company did not reveal whether this is also available for Facebook Messenger (also owned by Meta) or not. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, and Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, announced this feature through their broadcast channels. "You asked, and we listened. We heard your feedback and have started testing a new feature that lets you turn read receipts off in your DMs", Mosseri said.

Seems like Meta is officially working on end-to-end encrypted messages for Instagram as per a screenshot posted by the head of the messaging platform Adam Mosseri. WhatsApp owned by the same company also has this security encryption feature to ensure the user's privacy. Vanish mode on Instagram already sends read receipts messages.
