Will the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 be the slimmest foldable? Leaked renders reveal a thin design
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is anticipated to have a thickness of 4.5mm when unfolded and 9.5mm when folded.
Samsung is the first tech company to introduce a foldable smartphone, but it does not have the crown for the thinnest foldable. Every company tries to attract users with its thinness, and the South Korean giant appears to be adopting this strategy for its foldable phones as well. The recently leaked render of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 suggests that it will be the thinnest foldable ever produced by the company.
On Monday, the reliable and most accurate leak source, Onleaks, in collaboration with Android Headlines, posted a leaked render that suggests a more appealing and thinner Galaxy Z Fold 7. The leaked render also indicates narrower bezels than ever produced by Samsung's foldables; this change may be inspired by Samsung's flagship phone, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which features bezels of 1.32mm. A significant change by Samsung is the reduction in the Z Fold 7’s thickness. It is expected that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will come with a thickness of 4.5 mm when unfolded and 9.5 mm when folded. Although this new model will not claim the title of the world's thinnest foldable, as the recently launched Oppo N5 already boasts a thickness of 4.2 mm when unfolded and 8.9 mm when folded, the difference will likely be negligible from the user’s perspective.
The new renders of the Galaxy Z Fold suggest that Samsung plans to change its bezier corners to rounded corners, differentiating from the boxier design seen on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 last year. If this leak proves accurate, Samsung will finally relieve users from the dilemma of boxy corners, which it abandoned in the recently launched Galaxy S25 series. The other design elements, including the rear and front cameras, remain the same as its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 SE (Special Edition), which features three rear cameras: a 200 MP primary camera, a 12 MP ultrawide camera, and a telephoto camera, along with a 4 MP under-display camera on the folding screen and a 10 MP camera on the cover display.
It's important to remember that these details are based on leaks and rumors, and final specifications may vary. However, these renders provide valuable insights into Samsung's development plans. Samsung typically launches its foldables in the second quarter, around June, and we expect a similar timeline this year. Additionally, with the anticipated release of the Galaxy S25 Edge, another device focused on slim design, Samsung might be planning a dedicated event to highlight its advancements in thin mobile technology. We will continue to monitor developments closely and provide updates as more information becomes available.
