Hey, music lovers! There's finally some news you'll absolutely love. WhatsApp is, after a bit of a wait, rolling out a highly anticipated feature – adding music to your status. Parent company Meta, which introduced this feature to Instagram a year ago and recently added music to Instagram profiles, is now extending it to WhatsApp.
Earlier today, Meta announced this exciting update via its official blog, where they highlighted the feature's purpose: to enhance expression and sharing through status updates, allowing users to “share life’s moments with friends and family.” This unique WhatsApp status feature mirrors Instagram Stories, enabling you to effortlessly share videos, text, and photos that disappear after 24 hours. When creating a status, you'll now see an "Add Music" icon at the top of the screen. WhatsApp claims their library offers “millions of songs to choose from.” For photos, you can add a music clip up to 15 seconds, and for videos, up to 60 seconds.
The key difference from Instagram is that the music clips and statuses you share are end-to-end encrypted, meaning only you and your friends can view them. WhatsApp emphasizes that even they cannot access this content, it is a familiar assurance from the social media giant regarding its features.
WhatsApp has stated, “We’re rolling this out globally and expanding over the next few weeks. Get ready to drop the beat, one update at a time.” This WhatsApp music status feature is a significant step in how users can now engage with their contacts.
