In a rapidly accelerating tech world, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is setting unprecedented paces, and Google Search is swiftly adapting, introducing groundbreaking features. The search giant is now testing real-time AI voice chat directly within Google Search, a revolutionary step accessible through Google Search Labs. This innovation is poised to redefine how we interact with information online.
Beyond Traditional Voice Search: Welcome to "Search Live"
Following the significant buzz generated at Google I/O 2025, Google is actively integrating its advanced AI models into its traditional search experience. Today, the company unveiled a new capability allowing users to have a genuine conversation with Google's AI chatbot directly from their search interface. This isn't your conventional voice search; it enables an interactive, back-and-forth dialogue, mirroring a real-time conversation. Google has aptly named this feature "Search Live," a term that perfectly captures its instantaneous nature and inherits the groundbreaking legacy of the Google Gemini Live feature, which set new industry trends last year. As Google articulates, "Search Live in AI Mode uses a custom version of Gemini with advanced voice capabilities." This ensures a seamless and highly intelligent conversational experience. Additionally, Google recently introduced an innovative feature that transforms your search results into an AI Podcast, currently accessible through Labs.

Engaging with this innovative conversational AI assistant is straightforward. First, you'll need to opt into the "AI Mode experiment" within Google Search Labs. Once enabled, simply navigate to the new "Search Live" button located beneath the search bar. With a click, you're ready to verbally interact with the AI for your specific search query. Google provides compelling examples, such as asking, "What are some tips for preventing a linen dress from wrinkling in a suitcase?" The AI will then provide an answer, delivered in its distinct voice, drawing from the vast knowledge available in Search.
What truly elevates this experience is the ability to ask follow-up questions. Google will continue to provide insightful answers and, crucially, offer easy-to-access links directly on your screen for more in-depth research. Currently, this transformative feature is available on the iOS and Android Google Search applications, bringing the power of AI-powered search to your mobile device.
Seamless Interaction: Mute, Transcripts, and History
When engaged in a conversation with Search Live, users are provided with intuitive controls. Two prominent options will appear: the ability to mute the AI's voice and to access a live transcript of your conversation. Given that this feature inherits its core from Google Gemini, the user interface (UI) mirrors Gemini Live's design, with the mute button and transcript option conveniently located at the bottom center of the page.
The transcript feature is particularly noteworthy. It provides a chatbox where the entire conversation is available in text format, offering the flexibility to switch between voice and text input. Furthermore, Google intelligently stores your previous AI Search history, allowing you to seamlessly pick up where you last left off. This continuity enhances the user experience significantly. Remarkably, you can even open multiple tabs, and Search Live will continue to operate efficiently in the background, ensuring uninterrupted workflow. Excitingly, Google also plans to integrate camera support into Search Live in the coming months, allowing for even richer, multimodal interactions.
