While the official unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S25 series isn't expected until early next year, the rumor mill is already churning. A recent leak from industry insider Ice Universe hints at a significant design shift for the Galaxy S25 Ultra variant. According to Ice Universe, Samsung is ditching the boxy edges that have become a hallmark of recent Ultra phones in favor of a more curvaceous design.
This shift wouldn't be limited to just the edges. The leak
suggests the Galaxy S25 Ultra will have not only rounded edges but also rounded
corners on the front and back panels, similar to the design of the Galaxy Note
7. However, unlike the Note 7, the S25 Ultra is expected to retain its flat
display.
This rumored design change could be Samsung's response to user feedback. Several prominent tech YouTubers, including MrWhoseTheBoss, have pointed out the drawbacks of the boxier design in recent Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. The sharp corners have been criticized for making the phone harder to hold comfortably, causing " very hand indentation" in the palm, term used by the Mr Whose The Boss.
If this leak proves accurate, it seems Samsung is taking user
comfort into consideration. It's interesting to note that the recently leaked
designs for the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Fold 6 (expected to be unveiled at
the July 10th Unpacked event) still retain the boxy aesthetic. This suggests a
potential design divergence between the foldable and non-foldable lines in Samsung's
future.
The previous leak also suggests a minor change to the camera in the Galaxy S25 Ultra, a massive 200-megapixel sensor paired with a rumored 1-inch sensor size. This larger sensor size can significantly improve low-light performance and capture even better details. Other leaks also suggest that the S25 lineup could include Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, but also a rumored new flagship processor from MediaTek. However, leaks suggest the S25 lineup could come with three chipset options depending on the region.
While it's still early days, this leak offers an intriguing
glimpse into the possible design direction for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Whether
the rounded design translates to improved ergonomics and user experience
remains to be seen. We'll have to wait for further leaks or the official reveal
to know for sure.
