WhatsApp is continuously enhancing user privacy by introducing new features, the latest one is Secret Code. This enchanting update will allow users to hide WhatsApp chat from entry-level using a secret code. This will give users more control over their private chats and make their conversations secure from unauthorized persons.
The meta-owned instant messaging app introduced the Chat Lock app last year and promised to give a user the ability to set a custom password for their Locked Chats, and now after six months, it has finally rolled out officially for their users. This feature just adds an extra layer of security for locked chats, which was not possible previously, as locked chats are easily accessible (through screen lock) when some unauthorized person accesses your phone. A few months back, WhatsApp rolled out the Secret Code feature for beta users but now been introduced to the general public.
"Now you can set your locked chats to only appear when you type the secret code in the search bar, so no one can ‘unintentionally’ discover your most private conversations.", Mark Zuckerberg announced this feature through his official WhatsApp channel.
How to set Secret Code for WhatsApp Locked Chats
To set a Secret code for your locked chats, you need to follow these steps:
- Open WhatsApp and go to Settings.
- Navigate to Chat Lock then tap on Secret Code.
- Tap on Create a Secret Code.
- Your code should be at least 4 characters long and can use numbers, letters, symbols, and even emojis.
- Hit the Next button and then confirm to save your secret code.

How to Hide Locked Chats with Secret Code on WhatsApp
Once you have done all these steps, you will able to hide the chat lock from the entry-level chat list. To hide you just need to follow the below steps.
- Go to Settings and then navigate to Chat Lock.
- Now Turn on the Hide Locked Chats toggle.
- Once you've done it, your locked chats hide from the chat list.
To access the Locked Chats, you just need to enter your
secret code into the search bar and your hidden locked chats will appear at the
top of the list.
